Women's basketball team to head to nationals as track team brings home awards from

The Lady Lions have completely dominated the Red River Athletic Conference this season and continued to do so last weekend when they defeated three conference opponents to win the RRAC Tournament Championship. LU beat Wiley 83-65 on day 1, Our Lady of the Lake 90-72 on day 2, and Southwestern Assemblies of God 70-61 in the championship.
Langston forward Stephanie Madden was named the RRAC Tournament MVP, while Sanetra Jackson and Latesha Calton-Woods were named to the All-Tournament team.
Last Thursday, the conference released the 2009-2010 All-Conference teams for Men's and Women's Basketball. Again, the Lady Lions cleaned up. Sanetra Jackson was named the RRAC Player of the Year. Stephanie Madden was named the RRAC Newcomer of the Year. Head Coach Jerome Willis was named the RRAC Coach of the Year. Jackson, Madden, and Latesha Calton-Woods were all named 1st team All-RRAC. Ashlea Gray and Shonderlette Paul were both named Honorable Mention All-RRAC.
The men's team had two players selected All-RRAC. Senior Catrell Currie was selected as a 1st team All-RRAC student-athlete, while senior Alvin Lewis was honored as a 2nd team All-RRAC selection.
The Lady Lions will depart for the 2010 NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship in Jackson, Tenn. on Sunday evening. We won't find out who the Lady Lions will play or when the first game will be until later this week. Log onto www.luathletics.com to get more information.

The 2010 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship was held March 4-6 in Johnson City, Tenn. As usual, Langston University was well represented and very successful.
Sophomore Mario McCottrell repeated as the national champion in the 600 meter run. Junior Julius Koger finished 2nd in the long jump. Both young men received All-American honors for their accomplishments. Several other athletes finished in the top 10 in the respective events.
