It's Monday; you're just waking up and as you struggle to pull yourself together, you reach over to play your favorite CD. But instead, you flip the dial to KALU 89.3 FM, Langston University's own campus radio station, and you hear your classmate on the air hitting you with your favorite morning song.

Ten weeks ago, this scenario would have been laughable. KALU had been down for a few semesters, leaving us with pure static every time we attempted to tune in. However, with the help and guidance of Dr. Benjamin Bates, interim chair of the department of communication, the Langston community can now tune in and listen to what the student radio personalities have in store.

"Radio is a big a part of broadcast journalism," Bates said. "With the station being back open, it will give students more experience and it's extremely beneficial. It prepares them for better opportunities in the future, and it will make them more employable."

Every talent brings something a little different to Langston's airways.

"The Power Hour" airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with Alexis "Sexy Lex" Scott Perry, a sophomore broadcast journalism major from Denver, Colo.

"I get you through your day. I'm just like sunny delight; I'm here when you need me," Perry said, adding that she takes song requests.

Renoil "Tha Brotha" Simpkins III, a sophomore broadcast journalism major from Kansas City, Mo., brings us what he likes to call "Words From the Brotha," a spin off from the LU Gazette's "Ask A Brotha" column. His show airs on Fridays from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

"I give the listeners real answers to real questions-from relationships, to everyday life- with dope music to go with it," Simpkins said.

Simpkins also has a female guest come on the air during the show

"I have to get to the female perspective and opinions too," he said.

Jackie "Jackie- O On the Radio" Ingram, a senior from Enid, Okla., and Randall "Greater Than Great" Barnes, a junior from Houston, Texas, call their show "The Den."
