WORLD AIDS DAY was first commemorated on December 1, 1988, after a summit of health ministers from around the world realized the need for a more extensive global exchange of HIV/AIDS information. The purpose of World AIDS Day is to reinforce the effort that is required to address the global challenges of the AIDS pandemic. Since 1988, it has always been hoped that the observance of World AIDS Day will serve as a rallying point for the encouragement of public, private, and governmental support from around the globe. The aim is to facilitate the development of programs and research that could help prevent the spread of HIV. We, at Langston University hope to additionally stimulate the spirit of solidarity, of tolerance, of compassion, and of understanding towards individuals and their loved ones who are battling with HIV/AIDS.

In recognition of the 2009 World AIDS Day theme-Universal Access and Human Rights-the LU Professional Counseling Center along with Beta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity will on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, co-host a luncheon. The luncheon, to be held in the Black Heritage Center, will begin at 12 noon. An informational program and discussion which will be one hour long will commence after the meal service at approximately 12:20 p.m. During the informational program-a number of topics-to include sources of HIV transmission, length of incubation, HIV testing and reliability of tests, methods of prevention, and other relevant facts, etc., will be addressed.

The World AIDS Day luncheon and program is open to the Langston University community without charge. However-to enable us to adequately cater for everyone-students, faculty, and staff are requested to use the link below to RSVP for the luncheon.
