Are you tired of eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the multi? Tired of loud construction workers blasting your ear drums throughout the day? Well say no more, because the opening of the Student Union is around the corner.

The union is expected to open late December, according to Ruben Oliver, contract manager for Langston's Physical Plant Services. He said some additional items awaiting approval may postpone the date up to late February or early March. Among those items are a parking lot and modifying a Burger King requirement.

Building the union has taken more time than both school officials and students expected. The budget for the project was initially $14 million, but only one-third of the finances were received, which created a problem. Many things were cut out in order to fit the budget, which halted some of the construction, Oliver said.

"There were a few issues throughout the project because of not having the total budget, but we finally got it rolling," Oliver said.

The union will have two floors and will consist of a fun-filled game room, a newly improved cafeteria with expanded seating, a seminar room and a multipurpose floor room. The book store, SGA offices, financial aid, student affairs and administration offices will also be housed inside. Vending machines and a new ATM will also be available. In addition, security cameras will be installed throughout the facility, according to Oliver.

The infamous "Multi" will go back to being a gymnasium. New workout equipment and flooring are also in the plans.

Reginald King, a junior business major from Dallas, Texas is looking forward to the opening of the union.

"It's been two years since we've had a union. I'm excited to see the new features. The campus will feel complete now," King said.

Mariah Crutcher also can't wait to finally have a building that has everything needed to serve students.

"I am excited about it because it will provide another avenue for students to fellowship, study, network, and offer a better dining experience," said Crutcher, a junior agricultural business major from Muskogee, Okla.
