Music Education Day celebrates LU's talent

The music department hosted Music Dedication Day last week that featured some of the best musicians from the department.
Sasha Watts, the current Miss Langston, was the host of the event. Watts, a member of the L.U. Marching Pride Band, based the event off of her platform, which is music.
"I chose music as my platform because I've been involved for about nine years," Watts said. "I feel like music education is very important to students, so I wanted to help raise the awareness towards music education."
The event consisted of 11 performers, all from the music department: Denyse Scott, Braylon Dedmon, Dontreka Matthews, Jeryme McCrary, Pattrick Wilborn, Nicole Denise, Rajah Kennedy, Janee Culpepper, Shelby Joyner, Langston Parker and Micah Byrne. The performances were either vocal or instrumental.
Nicole Denise, a junior music education major and member of the L.U. Concert Choir and Chorale, was glad to participate in the event. She sung "War Cry" by Micah Stampley.
"Music is living, and if there was an absence of music in the world, there wouldn't be," Denise said.
Kelvin Hadnot, a member of the music department, enjoyed the performances and also feels that music is vital to life.
"There's a lot of joy in music; a lot of happiness," Hadnot said. "For me, music is like a foundation of peace; it kind of helps me move throughout the day."

Music Dedication Day is a good occasion where it is possible to listen to the music, brilliantly performed by the best students of music department.
