The Iota chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. (SGRho) hosted their national platform, which kicked off on Monday, Sept. 14.
Project Reassurance is one of the many platforms the ladies of SGRho put on each year, and is showcased every September here on Langston's campus. The Iota chapter's purpose of Project Reassurance is to raise money for materials needed for an expecting mother to take care of her baby.
According to the president of the Iota chapter of SGRho, Paige Prince, the money that was collected will go towards two students at Emerson Alternative High school in Oklahoma City and will be used for child care materials for their expecting baby. She said that last year the ladies of SGRho raised more than $100, which was also given to an expecting mother at Emerson Alternative High School.
This year, the ladies of SGRho collected funds Sept. 14 - 16 in the atrium from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. They also went to Page Hall for further fundraising.
According to Prince, this year the ladies of SGRho raised more than $130. Vice president of the Iota chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho, Tanisha Dews, is happy about the outcome of their platform.
"We're proud of the contributions that the Langston community has made towards Project Reassurance," Dews said.
Next year, the ladies of SGRho hope to raise more than $100 again.
