So many times on campus students hear the phrase, "The power to succeed. Failure is not option." But what exactly is the power to succeed and how does it relate to the LU student body?
These words garner a promise from the institution to provide the tools for success in life beyond just succeeding in college. This means that Langston is virtually obligated to provide the proper tools to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to be prosperous in their future endeavors.
However, with all of the negativity that surrounds LU, light is never shed on the positive factors and successes at LU. While what most people hear about Langston are the failures or problems of the institution, success actually happens to surround the student body.
There are so many positive aspects to student life at dear Langston. The majority of the student body is making the effort to pursue higher education. There are students who are doing positive things everywhere on campus. Not everyone is here to cause a ruckus, there are students who value the worth of their education. It is these students who receive the power to succeed.
The power to succeed is a gift bestowed only upon those who truly seek to succeed in their endeavors regarding their future and their education. The power to succeed is granted only to those who wish to possess it. The keys are to success are openly and readily available to those to seek the advantages of their power. However, not everyone desires to receive the power to succeed. Instead some students would rather be gang-affiliated, addicted to drugs and alcohol, care more about having the hottest clothing than the highest grades, care more about the things that have no positive value or effect on life, or care more about being a "pimp," "boss," or "diva" more than they care about being a scholar.
But what are the keys to success?
The keys to success include but are not limited to: having a passion to make sure that by any means necessary one's dreams are seen into fulfillment. High self-esteem to ensure that one can accept when people challenge who they are. Persistence is needed to ensure that the goals you have set for one 's self come into fulfillment. Talent and skill in one's craft is needed to be successful. Drive and motivation are needed to be successful.
LU helps provide the keys for success to the student body everyday on campus. LU helps students by motivating them to do their best, helping to perfect their talents, providing them with the necessary skills to be successful, and helping them assess what it is in life that they want to do.
Langston is here to help provide the keys and the power to succeed to students. Success is open for those who want to succeed, but to each their own. Langston can inform students all day about the power to succeed and present them with the tools to succeed, but they can't make the student body succeed unless they want to. It's like the old saying, "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink."
As long as there are students who wish to succeed, then yes the statement, "The power to succeed. Failure is not an option," is very valid and true to LU students.
