Marcia Brixey, founder of Money Wise Women Educational Services, will be the keynote speaker at the "Do It Herself: A Journey to Financial Freedom" annual women's conference on Oct. 10 in Oklahoma City at the Clarion Meridian Convention Center.

Brixey has spent 26 years working for the Social Security Administration where she met thousands of women who experienced financial difficulties resulting from personal crisis - husband's death, divorce, illness or loss of a job. Because of her experiences, she created Money Wise Women Educational Services in 2002. She also wrote "The Money Therapist: A Woman's Guide to Creating a Healthy Financial Life." Brixey says she wants to "ensure that every woman be financially articulate, confident, secure and independent."

Created for women, by women, "Do it Herself" will include classes on investing, basic budgeting, estate planning, getting out of debt, reducing taxable income, protecting yourself from identity theft and retirement planning. Additionally, two new classes have been added on resume writing and interviewing and reading and understanding your credit report.

The Oklahoma City event is co-hosted by the Oklahoma Society of CPAs and the AICPA. "Do It Herself" begins at 8:30 a.m. and lasts until 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 and include lunch. Additionally, door prizes will be awarded throughout the day. For more information, visit www.KnowWhatCounts.org or call the OSCPA at (800) 522-8261, ext. 3806.
