The Sigmas, who just won first place and $800 last month at a step show in Liberty, Mo., claimed another first place title and $1,000 prize. The Kappas won second place and $500.
After winning the show the Sigmas celebrated by chanting and stepping.
"With all the hard work we put in our show, it feels like we should have won. As the elite step team in the state of Oklahoma, we feel obligated to put in a show for the crowd that is more exhilarating than the previous show," said Nathan Williams, president of the Beta Epsilon chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and a senior computer science and mathematics major from Mountain Home, Idaho.
The Sigmas say they enjoy traveling to step shows just as much as they do competing in them.
"The road trips are the best part of winning the step shows. Through all the adversity, drama and arguments we still have fun doing what we do best. The road trips have strengthened our brotherhood, which is one of the principles we stand for," Williams said.
The Kappas were also happy to bring an award back to Langston.
"I feel it was a huge accomplishment. We really worked hard in preparing for the step show and it paid off," said Michael Thompson, a Kappa and junior broadcast journalism from Memphis, Tenn.
