Motivational speaker Fox Rich hosted a "power party" for LU students on March 2.

In honor of Women's History Month, the Student Government Association invited Fox Rich to come uplift the students on campus and advise them on how to respect themselves and treat members of the opposite sex.
Rich, who is a native of Shreveport, La., served seven years in prison for accessory to armed robbery and jury tampering, crimes she committed with her husband. According to her website, www.foxrich.com, she believes that her period of incarceration gave her time to realize what was really important in life.
"The positive that came out of that experience is my great appreciation for freedom and family," Rich states.  "It is less about materialism and more [about] what's priceless-the gift of life and coming into this life to fulfill your life's purpose."
While incarcerated she came up with the idea of hosting a "power party," an event where people can grow stronger and more powerful together. Rich primarily speaks to college students because of the impact she feels she can have in helping them make important life decisions that will shape their lives.
"If you can make those life decisions from the stand of being informed and enlightened, then you can make better decisions that will affect you for the rest of your life," she explained.
More than 100 students attended the power party she hosted in Langston University's chapel, which had music, incense, candles and a multitude of motivating words.
After having the men and women sit separately, Rich informed them that they have something special in this life to accomplish that no one else can.
"There is a reason for you being here," Rich said. "No matter what anyone tells you, you were destined to be here."
Rich talked about how each person living today should consider themselves blessed because just the fact that they were even conceived is a miracle.
"There are 500 million sperm, all coming to create the gift of life . . . you were the only one that was bad enough, bold enough, strong enough and enduring enough to get through the hostile environment in your mama's womb to get to the egg and fertilize it," she said.
She also pointed out that each person in the room was unique and original because out of the six billion people on Earth, no one is the same.
Rich then addressed all the women in the audience as the mothers of all civilization.
