The Oklahoma Delta chapter of Alpha Chi National Honor Society inducted 21 members on Wednesday, March 1 in the Scholars' Inn Clubhouse.
The spring 2006 inductees are Sheryl Blackwell, Tomica Blocker, Derek Blythe, Leethaniel Brumfield, Seretha Collins, Ralph Culver III, Heidi Drisdom, Ireishal Franklin, Kyle Gregory, Calvin Hawkins, Brittini Jagers, Andrew Jordan, George Kpeli, Jamese Lewis, Vertina Long, Cherie Ognibene, Via'Ney Price, Kariel Ross, Lindsey Strobel, Tiffany Taylor, and Sharice Threatt.
The new members received recognition pins and recited the society's motto: "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32)." Afterwards they received a warm welcome from other Alpha Chi members.
Alpha Chi is a national scholarship recognition society with an estimated 300 chapters nationally. The objective of Alpha Chi is the promotion and recognition of scholarship and of those elements of character which make scholarship effective for good among the undergraduate students in academic divisions of colleges and universities.
"I feel it's a great achievement to get into Alpha Chi, it shows you worked hard to maintain your GPA," said Ralph Culver III, a junior mathematics major.
Students must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA and have accumulated 60 college credit hours to gain membership in the Alpha Chi National Honor Society.
"Alpha Chi is worth striving to be a member of because it's something that will benefit you for the rest of your life," said Dr. Jo Ann Clark, dean of the Edwin P. McCabe Honors Program.
