Omegas honor members

The members of the Phi Psi chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity Inc. and the organizations graduate chapter Upsilon Iota, capped off their Achievement Week celebration Nov 20 with a Founder's Day program. The founder's day program took place in the atrium to honor fraternity members, for the hard work they have shown in the community and within the organization.

New book club keeps reading fun

Whoever said there couldn't be any fun reading books obviously haven't met the new fresh faces of the Black Heritage Center (BHC) staff. BHC curator Jovanni Williams teamed up with librarian Tuere Murray to start a book club on campus, Street Bookers. Williams and Murray thought the club would be great for students who keep their eyes glued on pages with words.

Seminar hosted on self-defense

A seminar was offered to raise the awareness of fighting off an attacker on Nov. 23 in the Allied Health Building. The seminar was co-sponsored by the Lambda Alpha chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and the Phi Psi chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Students voice concerns at SGA-hosted think tank

Langston University's (LU) Student Government Association (SGA) hosted a university think tank on Wednesday Dec. 2. The think tank, named "What Needs To Occur To Ensure Langston University's Viability" was a forum for students to present and discuss their concerns and opinions freely on various topics to the SGA elected officials.

LU instructor named Outstanding Oklahoma Political Scientist

The Oklahoma Political Science Association (OPSA) presented Langston University Assistant Professor Dr. Meshack Sagini with the Outstanding Oklahoma Political Scientist Award for his extensive research during a conference held last month in Ada, Okla. Sagini has been working in the social science department at Langston University for the last 19 years.

Leona Mitchell to headline holiday concert
An internationally acclaimed opera singer will headline Langston University's 25th Annual President's Holiday Concert. Leona Mitchell will take the stage at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, in Langston University's C.F. Gayles Gymnasium. Admission is free to the general public.

Suicide prevention class helps prevent tragedy

A suicide prevention class took place Nov. 18 at the Presbyterian Church in Edmond, Okla. to give people the opportunity to help save lives. Rev. Mitchell Miller, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, said he opened the doors of the church because he felt this class was an excellent opportunity for people to learn about suicide prevention.

Music Education Day celebrates

The music department hosted Music Dedication Day last week that featured some of the best musicians from the department.  Sasha Watts, the current Miss Langston, was the host of the event.  Watts, a member of the L.U. Marching Pride Band, based the event off of her platform, which is music.

World AIDS day

World AIDS day
The first of December is observed each year as World AIDS Day. On Tuesday the Langston University's Professional Counseling Center along with the help of the Beta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. hosted a luncheon in efforts to help honor those affected by AIDS and the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, better known as the HIV virus.
