Local businesswomen push economic empowerment

In celebration of Black History Month, the university hosted a Black economic empowerment forum to inspire students to become the producers of their future. Mark Flemon, assistant vice president for student affairs, hosted the event that took place Monday evening in the school's atrium.

Mt. Bethel Baptist Church was packed to capacity this past Sunday as three students were awarded the Dr. John W. Coleman Scholarship. The students, one of whom is a student at Langston, were presented their scholarships in the amount of $500 by Reverend Jimmie L.

The raw deal on ramen

It has been said that "you get what you pay for." This seems to be very true for college students and others living on a tight budget who have made ramen noodles a staple of their diet. Ten-cent-a-pack ramen noodles may be the quick, cheap fix for financially burdened college students.

Loria Jackson was crowned the new Miss Black Langston University 2008 Sunday, Feb. 24 in the I.W. Young Auditorium. The theme of the pageant was "The Woman In Me." The other young women who competed were Denyse Scott, Britney Ellis, Irene Howard, Davia Holland, Candace Antwine, Tempest West, and Harnecia Kirk.

William H. Hastie was the first African-American federal judge in U.S. history, and one of the youngest, as he was selected for the position at the age of 32. Hastie was born in Knoxville, Tenn. on Nov. 17, 1904, where he spent the most significant years of his childhood before moving to Washington, D.

Scientists clone glow-in-the-dark cats
AThanks to the work of a team of South Korean scientists, cats may now have more than nine lives. The scientists have begun cloning cats that glow-in-the-dark when exposed to ultraviolet light. They accomplish this by manipulating a red fluorescent protein (RFP) gene using a procedure that has the potential to improve treatments for human genetic diseases.
