Love's accused of racism, insensitivity

Many members of the Langston University family are angry with Love's Country Store for closing its doors Saturday, Oct. 28 to prevent people heading home from late night homecoming activities from entering the business. During Langston's homecoming weekend, the Love's Country Store (Love's) located at Highway 33 and I-35 in Guthrie, Okla.

Langston University celebrated Red Ribbon Week Oct. 18-22, 2006. According to Dr. LaDonna McCune, a licensed alcohol and drug counselor within the Professional Counseling Center, during Red Ribbon Week schools and communities celebrate a healthy drug-free lifestyle.

New CIO hopes to improve LU through technology
Several new administrators have joined Langston University this year, including Preston Williams, who was hired as the school's first chief information officer (CIO). Dr. JoAnn Haysbert created the position as part of her vision to move Langston from excellence to greatness, which includes improving the technology on the university's three campuses.

Hazards of smoking discussed during health forum

The school of nursing and health professionals hosted Health & Wellness Forum 2006 on Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. The forum was filled with information, fun, food, and door prizes. The objectives for the forum were to increase the awareness of the effects of tobacco on one's health and on the health of others, to discuss why smoking cessation will improve one's health and the health of those around, and to discuss the effects of tobacco smoking during pregnancy.
