Rodriguez garners Mr. Langston title
Jesse Rodriguez was the elated winner of the Mr. LangstonUniversity Scholarship Pageant that took place Feb. 23 in the John Montgomery Multipurpose Building. Rodriguez is a 20 year old biology/health administration major from Harrah, Okla. Rodriguez was contestant number four of the five competitors running for the coveted title.

One year has passed since Langston University first felt the hype of "College Hill II," yet the show's vivid images remain in our minds as if the series were still being shot just outside of the campus. The eight cast members, Tanisha Taylor, Jon Walker, Alva "Peaches" Jasper, Arthur "Israel" Doyle, Nafiys Blakewood, Stacey Stephens, Brittani Lewis and Coti Farley, were picked from among hundreds of students to show what life at LU was like.

Last semester, Rachel Goff garnered the 2006 Miss Langston University title. She now serves as a voice for the student body and an ambassador for the university. Goff is a senior elementary education major from Claremore, Okla. and a former Miss Black Langston University.

A rising number of college students are starting their life after graduation with a vast amount of debt. To ensure that Langston University graduates don't find themselves in financial chaos, the Langston University Student Chapter of The National Association of Black Accountants (LUNABA) hosted a personal finance seminar to help educate them on money and credit management Feb.

The Sociology Club at LU-Tulsa hosted a program, "The Contributions of African-American Women in American History/Civil Rights Movement" on Feb. 22 to celebrate black women's accomplishments and their role in shaping the country. During the program, which featured African dances and guest speakers on a number of topics, outstanding African-Americans in the community were recognized.

Rehabilitation Counseling Program Hosts Networking Banquet

The Langston University (LU) Graduate Program in Rehabilitation Counseling sponsored its second Annual Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) Scholars Networking Banquet on Dec. 9, 2005. The affair attracted more than 150 guests. The event started with a networking forum, which provided graduate students with the opportunity to meet, greet, and become informed of future employment opportunities.

Haysbert shares her vision with Langston's citizens
Citizens of Langston met with the fifteenth president of Langston University, Dr. JoAnn Haysbert, on Feb. 21 at the Baptist Student Union. During the meeting Haysbert discussed her vision for the university and the Langston community. Haysbert focused on three issues during the meeting: achieving unity in the community, recruiting more students, and making Langston into a college town.

Colleges report improved student success in spite of more remediation

More first-time freshmen entering Oklahoma's public colleges and universities are enrolling in remedial courses, according to a report presented to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
